Thanks to its history, ithas an almost supernatural glamour. As played by Gilmour, it’s basically theinstrument that made me want to take up guitar– its taloned tone sounding sharp enough to tearcanvas onMoneyand so many other giant tracks. So it’s salutary to remember that this is oneheavily messed-with guitar – see our coverfeature for a detailed history of its many modsover the years, including neck changes, a Kahlervibrato and other tweaks. In fact, it’s the guitarequivalent of an axe that’s had three changes ofblade and four new handles – so wherein doesthe magic live? Where it always has, of course, inthe hands of a very fine player. As Gilmour’s tech, Phil Taylor, observes, you’drecognise Gilmour’s amazing touch and tone ifhe was playing a ukelele. So while we’ll alwaysjump at the chance to examine such historichardware, it’s only so much ageing metal andwood without a musician – and the unique styleof expression that each of us invests a guitarwith when we pick it up to play.Enjoy the issue, and a happy new year to youfrom all of us here atGuitarist.Print:20,931Digital:4,116The ABC combined printand digital circulation forJan-Dec 2013 is:25,047Jamie DicksonEditorA member of the Audited Bureau of CirculationsFuture is an award-winning international media group and leadingdigital business. Results inconclusive. Meanwhile, theGuitaristPlaymobilnativity scene was packed up for another year – but not before it hadgained a few extra cast members, including two Transformers anda Ninja Turtle. We also continued our tasting journey around thenation’s fine small breweries, toasting another issue’s completionwith the aid of some rather fineVelo IPAfrom the good peopleatBlack Sheep Brewery– we thank them for their generosity.© Future Publishing Limited 2015.All rights reserved.
